Meghan Markle and Prince Harry: CBS teases Oprah interview

Piers Morgan, an outspoken critic of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, has written a new column condemning the recent actions of the couple. In the lengthy opinion piece, the journalist highlights three of the pair’s “double standards”, which includes their frequent comments on climate change.

Mr Morgan wrote in the Daily Mail: “After the wedding, Meghan and Harry decided it was their job to now lecture the rest of us on how to lead our lives.

“They banged on about the environment whilst using private jets like taxis.

“They preached about poverty whilst throwing $500,00 baby showers in New York.

“They took millions in tax-payer cash to refurbish their gifted home Frogmore Cottage, then refused to release even basic details about their son Archie’s birth.”

10pm update: Prince Philip health: Duke ‘not going home anytime soon’ – Royal Family ‘united in prayers’

Prince Philip has been transferred to another hospital in London as he continues to be treated for an infection, Buckingham Palace announced today. The news of his extended hospital stay, has caused a “significant shift in the mood” at Windsor Castle, where the Queen is currently staying.

A royal source said: “The staff and all the Royal Family are united in their prayers for the Duke.

“There has been an almighty and collective effort to keep him and the Queen safe during the coronavirus crisis over the past 11 months but there was a significant shift in the mood when everyone started finding out the Duke wasn’t coming home any time soon.

“Everyone’s thoughts are now firmly centred on him pulling through this illness.”

8.30pm update: Queen puts on brave face and makes joke during video call as Philip remains in hospital

The Queen put on a brave face and even made a joke during a recent video call as her husband Prince Philip remains in hospital nearly two weeks after his initial admission.

During her video call with the Governor of South Australia Hieu Van Le and Steven Marshall, Premier of South Australia, the Queen joked the new statue could be mistaken for being the real her.

Upon seeing the artwork the Queen said: “I would think possibly it might be quite alarming to suddenly see it out of the window – you’d think, gracious, has she arrived unexpectedly?”

The sculpture depicts the Queen in a coat and hat carrying her trademark Launer handbag and has been installed in the grounds of Government House in Adelaide.

Upon hearing it had become a popular spot for people to take photographs, the Queen chuckled and said: “Oh really?”

Mr Le said: “They feel very close to you through standing in front of the statue.”

Sculptor Robert Hannaford also presented the Queen with a ‘maquette’, a scale model of the statue, which will be sent as a memento.

7.50pm update: Why Queen hasn’t visited Duke in hospital – experts explain

Some royal fans have been left wondering why the Queen has not visited her husband since his initial admission to hospital on February 16.

Prince Philip is famously not one to make a fuss and a visit from the Queen could attract the kind of attention the Duke may be keen to avoid during his time as an inpatient.

Following the Duke’s initial admission to hospital last month royal biographer and expert Penny Junor said: “I think he can be quite blunt and I think if he felt people were fussing over him he could be quite outspoken about that.”

ITV’s Royal Rota podcast hosts Chris Ship and Lizzie Robinson speculated as to why the Queen had not visited Philip in hospital during the show’s latest episode.

Referring to Prince Charles’s visit, Mr Ship said: “There have been no other visitors since and I suppose that’s not unusual.”

Mr Ship also pointed out the Queen has not visited the Duke in hospital when he has been admitted on previous occasions.

The expert said: “We’ve been outside the hospital before, the Queen didn’t come during the hip operation. She didn’t come when he was last in the hospital.”

7pm update: Meghan and Prince Harry leave fans disappointed as interview filmed at ‘friend’s home’

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s fans have enjoyed glimpses inside the couple $14.5million Californian mansion in previous videos.

However, they will be disappointed to learn they will not be getting another new glimpse inside the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s impressive home.

The “tell-all” Oprah Winfrey interview was taped at a “friend’s home” not the couple’s $14.5million mansion, according to the famous chat show host’s friend Gayle King.

5.40pm update: Princess Diana deeply regretted interview with Bashir before Harry spilled beans to Oprah

Princess Diana “deeply regretted” her interview with BBC Panorama’s Martin Bashir even before the programme aired.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have recorded a two-hour special with Oprah Winfrey, in which “nothing is off limits”.

In a clip released ahead of the air date, Harry said his biggest fear is “history repeating itself” in reference to his mother, Princess Diana.

Like her son, Diana struggled with public and press scrutiny, but she also felt isolated and unsupported within the Royal Family.

Diana famously spoke about her husband’s infidelity ‒ “there were three of us in this marriage” ‒ and other troubling topics like her depression and bulimia and her alleged lack of support from the institution, in a tell-all interview in 1995.

However, Diana “deeply regretted” delving into everything with the BBC, according to her former private secretary Patrick Jephson.

The princess only told Mr Jephson about it a week before it was due to be broadcast and even then was beginning to question whether she should have done it.

Mr Jephson said: “I think the scales fell from her eyes and suddenly what had been a rather subversive or daring scheme ‒ or however [the BBC] had dressed it up for her ‒ it suddenly in the cold light of day didn’t look like such a good idea.”

5pm update: Prince Harry blasted for not defending family against The Crown’s ‘uncaring’ depiction

Prince Harry has been blasted for not defending his family against The Crown’s depiction of them as “cold, uncaring, duplicitous and snobbish”.

The Duke of Sussex discussed the Netflix drama in his interview with James Corden for The Late, Late Show last week. Harry, who has recently signed a lucrative deal with the streaming company believed to be worth around £100million, said of The Crown: “It’s fictional. But it’s loosely based on truth. “Of course it’s not strictly accurate but it loosely gives you a rough idea of that lifestyle and the pressure of putting duty and service above family and everything else and what can come from that.”

He added: “I am way more comfortable with The Crown than I am seeing stories written about my family or my wife.”

The Duke has been criticised for his support of a show which portrayed his father Prince Charles and other members of his family in a distinctly negative light.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk that The Crown has become an “anti-monarchist tract” and that it portrayed Harry’s own family as “uncaring” and “duplicitous”.

He argued that Harry “could have defended his family”, rather than supporting the Netflix drama which must have been hurtful to them.

3.20pm update: Meghan Markle and Harry’s Oprah interview ‘could be scary for the Palace’ – Queen warned

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey “could be scary for the Palace”, a royal commentator has said.

Meghan and Harry’s two-hour-long interview with Oprah could be a cause of concern for Buckingham Palace in light of the two teasers released earlier today by broadcaster CBS, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams has noted. The commentator, who is also a film critic, commented on the publication of the two 30-second-long clips.

He wrote on Twitter: “As a film critic, I never watch trailers, they spoil blockbusters by revealing far too much. This is meant to tantalise, it implies we will learn exactly why they left Royal Family and millions will watch to find out. An extra 30 mins too. Could be scary for Palace!”

2.34pm update: Queen to struggle to get ‘back to business’ as royals ‘distant second’ to Meghan and Harry

The Queen may struggle to get the royals “back into business” following the Covid pandemic as the public is now more interested in Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, a royal expert has claimed.

The monarch is reportedly planning to mark the Trooping of the Colour in June to show the Royal Family is returning to normal duties following a year of adapting to online engagements.

But royal commentator Daniela Elser claimed the Firm may have already lost its “sway over Britons” as Meghan and Harry continue to make their mark in the US since stepping down as senior royals last year.

She also warned the Queen’s new “Magnificent Seven” slimmed down royal frontline may still “come second” to the Duke and Duchess.

4.15pm update: Prince Philip health: Meghan & Harry must ‘think carefully’ before broadcasting interview

Prince Philip’s health must be considered by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry as they plan the release of their interview, a commentator has claimed.

As Philip continues his stay in hospital, the Sussexes must be “careful” about the time of the release of their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Political commentator Andrew Pierce said the timing of their no holds barred interview may not be the best for Philip’s health.

Following two teaser clips of the interview by CBS, he called on the pair to be careful as Philip is transferred to St Bartholomew’s hospital today.

He said: “Prince Philip clearly in very poor health hence the transfer to St Bart’s a specialist cardiac hospital.

“Harry and Meghan on Oprah should think very carefully about the timing of the release of that ‘no holds barred’ interview.”

2.22pm update: Prince William wrote angry letter to protect ‘harassed’ Kate before Harry’s Oprah chat

Prince William sent a furious legal letter to protect Kate Middleton from harassment years before Prince Harry spoke up about Meghan Markle.

During the earlier days of their relationship, Kate was incessantly badgered by paparazzi as she went about her life, which made William “very angry”.

Royal author Marcia Moody, in her book ‘Kate: A Biography’, described an incident in 2005 that prompted William to fire off a legal letter against paparazzi harassment.

2.10pm update: Meghan Markle and Harry’s interview clip ‘makes Royal Family sound like the Mafia’ -expert

The latest teaser released ahead of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey “makes the Royal Family sound like the Mafia”, a royal expert has claimed.

In the run-up to the much-anticipated interview with Meghan and Prince Harry sitting down with Oprah Winfrey, US broadcaster CBS has released two 30-second clips.

One of these trailers shows the journalist asking the Duchess of Sussex whether she had been “silent or silenced”, before cutting to another part of the interview where Oprah tells Meghan: “Almost unsurvivable sounds like there was a breaking point.”

The ads also show Prince Harry speaking about his mother Princess Diana while holding hands with his wife.

These teasers, accompanied by tense music and dramatic cut scenes, have been criticised by royal commentator Robert Jobson, who wrote on Twitter: “The latest promo for the Meghan and Harry 7 March CBS interview with ⁦Oprah⁩ in which Meghan is asked was she ‘silent or silenced’ and she stays silent, is all for conspiratorial and dramatic.

“Makes the Royal Family sound like the Mafia. Bit daft and totally OTT [over the top].”

1.25pm update: Queen, Charles, William and Kate show united front with St David’s Day tributes

The Queen has led members of the Royal Family in wishing fans a happy St David’s Day as millions of Welsh followers at home and abroad mark the occasion.

The monarch, 94, shared a photo of herself on a visit to the Royal Welsh Regiment on this day four years ago.

She can be seen beaming as she holds a bunch of daffodils and chats to a young girl dressed in traditional Welsh attire. Writing alongside the snap on Instagram, the Queen shared her well-wishes in Welsh and English.

12.45pm update: Duke of Edinburgh summoned Prince Charles to ‘lay the ground’ for future of royal family

Prince Charles was summoned to the Duke of Edinburgh’s bedside to “discuss the future of the royal family”, according to one royal commentator.

The Prince of Wales recently visited his father, the Duke of Edinburgh, in hospital in London.

Prince Philip will spend his second week in hospital as he recovers from an infection, royal sources have confirmed.

While the purpose of the visit was previously unknown, royal commentator Dickie Arbiter, who worked for the Palace as a press officer for 12 years between 1988 and 2000, said the Duke was likely “planning for the future”.

Mr Arbiter told True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat: “I think it was at the request of the Duke that the Prince of Wales visited.

“To lay the ground. Look the man is 99, he is in with an infection.

“My guess is that he will come out, he will walk out and he will go back to Windsor.

“But eventually he is going to die and he was just saying to Charles, ‘one day you are going to be the leading man of the family’.”

12.36pm update: Prince Philip transferred to another hospital for treatment

The Duke of Edinburgh has been moved to St Bartholomew’s Hospital for treatment.

He was admitted to King Edward VII’s Hospital almost 13 days ago to be treated for an infection.

The 99-year-old husband of the Queen was transferred on Monday to have tests for a pre-existing heart condition as well as receive treatment for an infection.

Buckingham Palace released a short statement saying he is expected to remain in St Bartholomew’s Hospital until the end of the week.

The statement read: “The Duke remains comfortable and is responding to treatment but is expected to remain in hospital until at least the end of the week.”

11.35am update: Queen and senior royals wish Welsh fans a happy St David’s Day

The Queen, Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have posted on Instagram to wish Welsh people a happy St David’s Day.

They shared photos of themselves visiting Wales to mark the occasion.

The monarch accompanied the message with a snap of herself visiting the Royal Welsh Regiment on St David’s Day in 2017.

Kate and William shared a photo of themselves during a visit to Wales and said: ” Dydd Gwyl Dewi hapus i’n holl ddilynwyr Cymreig // Wishing all our Welsh followers a very happy St David’s Day!”

And Prince Charles and Camilla uploaded a series of dated snaps captured in Wales.

The couple said: “To all our followers celebrating in Wales and around the world – wishing you a very happy #StDavidsDay!”

10.50am update: Prince Philip hospital heartbreak: Queen not going to visit hospitalised husband ‘at all’

The Queen has no plans to physically visit Prince Philip while he is still in hospital, royal commentators have claimed, explaining why the monarch will sit out of this opportunity.

The Queen’s personal visit to her hospitalised husband is “very much in doubt”, royal commentators have said.

Prince Philip was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital almost two weeks ago for treatment of an infection, according to Buckingham Palace.

ITV Royal Rota podcast hosts Chris Ship and Lizzie Robinson discussed whether other royals could make an appearance for the Duke of Edinburgh after his son Prince Charles made a trip.

Mr Ship told listeners: “There have been no other visitors since and I suppose that’s not unusual.

“We’ve been outside the hospital before, the Queen didn’t come during the hip operation.

“She didn’t come when he was last in the hospital.

“I doubt very much that she’s going to come at all now because of the Covid situation and being 94.”

9.48am update: Henry VIII’s ‘lost palace’ hidden below London’s streets 300 years on from tragic fire

Henry VIII’s “lost palace” can be found hiding beneath the streets of London, as a historian discovered when she was granted special access to parts of Whitehall off-limits to the public.

The brutal king is best-known for having six marriages, initiating the English Reformation and beheading anyone who went against him, but remains from his reign show the true extent of his greed and lust for power.

Over the weekend, a section of one of Henry’s 16th-century castles collapsed into the sea following bad weather, just days before remedial work was due to start.

Hurst Castle, near Milford-on-Sea, Lymington, was one of 55 houses and palaces owned by Henry.

And the grandest of them all was revealed by historian Dr Suzannah Lipscomb during Channel 5’s ‘London: 2,000 Years of History’ documentary.

She said: “Henry’s impact on London began in an area that is now called Whitehall, in Westminster.

“Today it houses government offices, but in the Tudor period, there was an enormous mansion here that belonged to the King’s advisor, Cardinal Thomas Wolsey.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have revamped the Archewell website, making a significant change to the logo in what could be seen as a swipe at the Queen.

Meghan and Harry have launched a new version of their Archewell website, home to both the charity and personal work carried out by the couple.

This website now presents also an updated version of the logo, which highlights the values and mission of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s organisation.

Meghan and Harry made some changes to the logo, adding four words around it: community, service, compassion, action.

While the words community, compassion and action have been present on Archewell.com over the past few months, service has been featured so prominently only in this latest update – which comes more than one week after the Queen asked the Sussexes to relinquish all their royal and military patronages.

8.28am update: Princess Anne described why she decided to skip university – ‘Overrated pastime’

Princess Anne explained the reason why she chose not to attend university.

The Princess Royal left school at 18 with average grades and did not pursue further academic goals.

Instead, Anne decided to follow the Queen on her royal tours, she revealed in documentary ‘Anne: The Princess Royal at 70’.

She said: “So many of my contemporaries, when asked why they were going to university, would say, ‘Well basically, because that’s what you do.’

“And I remember thinking really that doesn’t sound like a very good reason to go university, so I thought I would skip that.

“But I also thought that I might have the opportunity to travel with Her Majesty on her tours.

“I did Geography A-level so, for me, it made more sense.”

In a trailer for the upcoming interview, released on Sunday evening, the Duke said: “My biggest concern was history repeating itself.”

Prince Harry appears to compare Princess Diana’s experience as a member of the Royal Family with his own alongside his wife Meghan.

In a separate clip, the Duke told the TV host: “For me I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side.
