The Queen “is a fan” of Kate, one royal insider claimed, saying the pair share the same attitude towards life and work. Royal expert Katie Nicholl reported her conversation with a royal insider, who shared the Queen’s praises for Prince William’s wife. The expert wrote: “The Queen is a fan. Kate is unflappable.
“Her mantra is very like the Queen’s keep calm and carry on approach in life, and she has the added benefit of making the Royal Family seem almost normal and in touch.”
The Queen, the source continued, is “so grateful to the Duchess, who remains one of the most popular members of the family”.
Kate is believed to have particularly pleased the monarch during her successful tour to Pakistan with Prince William.
The pair spent five days in the country in October, when they celebrated the UK’s links to the nation and visited several parts of Pakistan, from its capital Islamabad to remote villages in Lahore.
The Queen’s pride for the Duchess of Cambridge comes at a time described by biographer Claudia Joseph as “Kate’s year”.
She said: “It feels very much like this has been Kate’s year.
“She looks happy, in control and there’s a new confidence about her.
“I think Kate seems much happier than a year ago.
“She has three lovely children, has been honoured by the Queen for her hard work and is really well-liked not just here but around the world.”
Ms Joseph also added Kate’s popularity with the public is due to her being “very much the girl next door”.
The biographer said: “She’s very much the girl next door, from how she dresses to how she behaves and interacts with people on engagements.
“She is likeable and relatable and has made her very popular.”
Two years ago, the Queen honoured the 37-year-old Duchess with the Royal Family Order of Elizabeth II, the highest honour the monarch can bestow on a female member of the family.
Only 15 people, including the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and Princess Diana, have received this medal.
The badge consists in a yellow ribbon portraying a portrait of young Queen Elizabeth and the star of the Order of the Garter.
Kate first wore the badge at the Diplomatic Reception in 2017 but, as there were no photographers there, she was first seen wearing it in October 2018, at the state dinner thrown in honour of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.
The Duchess is said to be “enormously proud” of the honour.
A family friend claimed last year: “Catherine is enormously proud to have been given the brooch.
“She waited a long time for it, and I think she was very keen to be photographed in it.
“It’s a badge of honour as far as she is concerned and she’s absolutely thrilled.”
A source hinted that Meghan Markle may be the next one to receive this honour.
However, they added, the Duchess of Sussex will have to “prove herself” just like Kate has done in the past years.
They said: “The Queen considers it a very special gift.
“It is her way of thanking the female members of her family for their hard work.
“Kate has really had to prove herself, and Meghan will have to do the same.”
