Prince William and Harry have been living very separate lives following Harry and Meghan’s decision to step down from their royal duties. However, it seems the brotherly love is very much still there after the Duke of Cambridge mentioned his mother in an open letter.
The Duke wrote an open letter to the organisation behind the Diana award, a campaign focused on anti-bullying created in honour of William and Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.
The message marks one of the first written mentions of his brother since Harry and Meghan’s joint decision to step down as active working members of the Royal Family.
There has been little mention of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex via the Cambridges’ social media accounts, with many speculating things were tense between the brother’s following Megxit.
However, the Kensington Royal account did post a warm birthday message last week for Meghan and Harry’s son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, who just celebrated his first birthday.
In a rare open letter from the Duke, William mentioned his younger brother and how they both remain incredibly proud of the organisation’s dedication.
The organisation aims to foster support for youth even during uncertain times.
The Duke of Cambridge said he and his brother appreciate the charity’s work to help young people during the coronavirus crisis.
“I wanted to write to send my support and thanks to all the staff, volunteers and supporters of The Diana Award,” he began.
Royal fans were quick to react to the heartwarming post of the two brothers working together.
One commented: “Lovely message, such wonderful brothers, Diana would be so proud.”
Another wrote: “Lovely that Prince William wrote the letter.”
The Diana Award was set up in the memory of the Princess who tragically died in a Paris car crash in 1997.
The charity works to help young people including anti-bullying, mentoring and award programmes.
The two brothers appear to be in touch a little more after reports Harry’s decision to step down from his duties had lead to a royal rift.
The brothers have reportedly been keeping in touch on the phone and reports have emerged that the rift between the two royals has finally begun to heal.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl has revealed the two brothers are chatting on video calls.
Ms Nicholl told ET: “There have been clearly some quite major rifts in that relationship, but things have got better and I know that William and Harry are in touch on the phone.
“They have done video calls together, they have done a lot of family birthdays and I think with Prince Charles not being well, that really forced the brothers to pick up the phone and get back in touch.”
She added that Harry has been feeling homesick in LA and felt it was the ‘right time’ to reconnect with William.
Tensions between Meghan and Kate have also cooled as the expert claims “there is a sense of relief on both sides” that the drama of Megxit is a thing of the past.
