Prince Harry arrives to Africa Summit alone as he attends separate event to William & Kate | Royal | News – Royal family news

Prince Harry was spotted arriving at the UK-Africa Investment Summit hosted by Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The Duke of Sussex smiled as he left his car to enter the Greenwich venue where the summit is taking place.

There, Prince Harry is scheduled to have four bilateral meetings.

The summit is bringing together business leaders, governments and international institutions to showcase and promote the range and quality of investment opportunities for British businesses across the African continent.

Prince Harry, whose love for the continent is very well known, has toured Africa between September and October 2019 with his wife Meghan Markle.

The Duke and Duchess’ attention during the tour focused on female empowerment, education and the ongoing work to free the continent of landmines.

Prince Harry is also the proud co-founder of Sentebale, a charity born in Lesotho to help children with HIV.

The Duke of Sussex’ attendance to the summit comes just a few hours before the beginning of William and Kate’s reception, hosted on behalf of the Queen at Buckingham Palace, to mark the summit.

Prince William and Kate are filling in for the Queen, who is currently on her winter break and is set to remain at Sandringham House in Norfolk until February 6.

Prince Harry’s appearance at the summit comes just hours after he delivered an emotional speech at an event held in honour of his charity, Sentebale.

There, the Duke of Sussex explained how there was “no other option” for him and Meghan but to step back as senior royals.

Harry also highlighted how the exit deal struck with the Queen was not what he had hoped for – as it doesn’t allow him and Meghan to represent the monarch by carrying out official engagements and tours abroad.

Prince Harry had also to relinquish his honorific military titles and stop using his HRH style.

He said: “What I want to make clear is we’re not walking away, and we certainly aren’t walking away from you.

“Our hope was to continue serving the Queen, the Commonwealth and my military associations – but without public funding.

“Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible.”

“I’ve accepted this, knowing that it doesn’t change who I am or how committed I am.

“But I hope that helps you understand twhat it had to come to, that I would step my family back from all I have ever known, to take a step forward into what I hope can be a more  peaceful life.”
