A family friend of the Duchess told Vanity Fair the monarch is aware of the family rift. According to the insider, Her Majesty urged Prince Harry and Meghan to try to sort out the situation with Mr Markle before Christmas. The revelation comes after it emerged Kensington Palace is considering taking legal action over the personal letter Mr Markle gave to the press.
Of the Queen’s concern, an alleged friend of Meghan’s explained the monarch had urged Prince Harry to work with his wife on finding a resolution to the public family fallout.
They said: “She told them both that the whole thing was becoming a nightmare, and that they should try and sort things out.”
Buckingham Palace, however, refused to comment to Vanity Fair on the claim.
News of the Queen’s supposed concern comes after reports surfaced Kensington Palace aides are weighing up whether to take legal action over Mr Markle’s public disclosure of the family feud.
The estranged father shared a five-page letter, which laid bare the Duchess’ feelings towards him, with the world’s media after it was published worldwide after he leaked it to a British newspaper tabloid this weekend.
The Duchess’ half-sister, Samantha, has said her father “is prepared to release more” of the letter, with speculation mounting more excerpts could surface this weekend.
One friend of Meghan’s speaking out over the family rift said: “He writes her a really long letter in return, and he closes it by requesting a photo op with her.
“And she feels like, ‘That’s the opposite of what I’m saying.
“I’m telling you I don’t want to communicate through the media, and you’re asking me to communicate through the media’.”
However Omid Scobie, a correspondent for US television show Good Morning America, argued Meghan should have been aware her father would leak the correspondence.
He said: “While the purpose of Meghan’s letter was very much to repair the relationship with her father, she knew in her heart of hearts that this was going to be released to the papers.
“Thomas has a record of this and this is exactly the man that she knows.
“So, many of the things in that letter were written with the public in mind.
“She very much wanted to set the record straight.
“The letter being out there puts the story very much in the past, and she’s focused on the present.”
