Meghan Markle: Duchess’ backing in Queen ‘disrespect row’ exposed | Royal | News – Royal family news

The Duchess of Sussex and husband Prince Harry opted to remove themselves from senior royal life after they wished to lead a “financially independent” life in January. Their decision sparked international controversy, with the public and pundits torn over whether or not they should have stepped down due to their funding from the UK taxpayer. Furthermore, a row then erupted over the branding the couple wished to use in their new life, as their ‘Sussex Royal’ title for platforms such as Instagram, including the word ‘royal’ – something they wished to get away from.

And after releasing a bombshell statement following the Queen’s refusal to give them permission to continue with the use of ‘royal’, Piers took to Twitter to condemn the pair.

He wrote: “The staggering disrespect these two keep showing to the Queen is outrageous.

“Who the hell do they think they are?”

While some agreed with the ITV host, Meghan’s loyal army of fans back the Duchess, by mocking Piers – who was once snubbed by Meghan.

Responding to reports of the tweet back in February, one said: “How about seeing the good intentions in people.

“How about pointing out that Meghan and Harry value their independence and safety? Values you would want your kids to embrace.”

Another responded: “Get over it Piers!”

A third urged Harry to “go for it”, while a fourth added: “Piers Morgan. A British man bullying poor defenceless Duchess Meghan. It’s official the UK is a country full of bullies.

“While there is precedent for other titled members of the Royal Family to seek employment outside of the institution, for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, a 12-month review period has been put in place.

“Per the agreement The Duke and Duchess of Sussex understand that they are required to step back from Royal duties and not undertake representative duties on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen.”

Harry and Meghan eventually left the Royal Family at the end of March and opted to move over to California, where they now reside with their young son Archie.

Their decision to move there is believed to be centred around the fact Meghan’s mother – Doria Ragland – is nearby to help the new parents with their son.
